Protecting and Maintaining Your Caravan or Motorhome While in Storage

For those who relish the open roads and the comfort of their own caravan or motorhome, the off-season can be a respite for you but not necessarily for your vehicle. When adventure is on pause, protecting and maintaining your home-on-wheels is vital to ensure it remains in peak condition for the next expedition. Storing with a reputable facility like Hogleaze Storage offers peace of mind for caravan and motorhome owners. Nestled in Dorset, this top-tier storage facility not only safeguards your vehicle but also makes accessibility a breeze, ensuring that when it’s time to travel again, your caravan or motorhome is ready for the journey.

But what steps can you take to ensure your caravan or motorhome stays in pristine condition whilst it’s in storage? Here are five top tips to maintain these vehicles so that they endure the test of time, and idle periods.

Top Tips for Maintaining your Caravan or Motorhome in Storage

1. Perfect Preparation Prior to Parking

Before you lock up and go, a thorough clean of both the interior and exterior will protect your caravan or motorhome from deterioration. Remove all perishables and open all internal doors, including fridge and freezer doors, to prevent mould and odours. Give the exterior a good wash to remove any dirt or road salts that could corrode metal components. Pack away loose items and ensure that all windows and doors are secure.

2. A Breathable Cover to Counter the Elements

As your trusted vehicle is parked, ensure that it’s covered with a breathable material. This wards off environmental damage while preventing dampness, a common issue in lesser quality covers. It’s also wise to invest in wheel covers to prevent the tyres from cracking due to prolonged exposure to sunlight.

3. Maintenance Checks While You’re Away

Even while in storage, periodic inspections should be on your to-do list. Check the tyre pressures and rotate the wheels to avoid flat spots. Also, maintain a basic level of battery charge if possible, and consider visiting your caravan or motorhome to aerate it, heating the interior on cold days to prevent dampness.

4. Keep Critters at Bay

Confirm all vents are covered with mesh to deter insects and rodents that can cause unexpected damage to your vehicle. Never leave food or food remnants as they can attract pests, and use suitable repellents where necessary. Electrics and soft furnishings are particularly vulnerable, so be thorough.

5. Habitation checks & regular Servicing: The Non-negotiable

Although not a legal requirement, a habitation check is recommended for your safety, peace of mind and to protect your investment.

Lastly, regular servicing cannot be overlooked. A full service before storing and after retrieving your caravan or motorhome can prevent the bulk of issues that arise from standstill periods. It ensures that all operational systems are in working order and prevents unexpected failures when back on the road.

These steps will maintain the quality and extend the lifespan of your beloved caravan or motorhome. However, the choice of storage facility will significantly complement these efforts.

Protecting Your Classic Car from the Elements

As a classic car enthusiast, you understand the importance of protecting your beloved vehicle from harsh elements. Bad weather, ranging from rain and snow to intense heat and UV rays, can wreak havoc on your classic car’s exteriors, interiors, engine, and paintwork. In this in-depth and professional guide, we will delve into the various aspects of protecting your classic car, providing you with information that even the most discerning car enthusiast may not know.

Exteriors: Shielding Your Classic Car’s Body

The exterior of your classic car is not only a thing of beauty but also serves as a protective layer for the vehicle’s structure. To safeguard it from bad weather, consider the following:

Washing and Waxing: Regularly wash your car to remove dirt, dust, and other contaminants that can damage the paintwork. Apply high-quality car wax to create a protective barrier against UV rays, rain, and snow. This not only preserves the shine but also prevents fading and oxidation.

Paint Protection Film: Consider applying a paint protection film to vulnerable areas, such as the front bumper, hood, and wheel arches. This transparent film acts as a shield against stone chips, scratches, and other debris that can damage your classic car’s paintwork.

Tyres: Maintaining your tyres is essential to a smooth and safe driving experience. Avoid leaving the car static for extended periods as the weight-bearing on one singular side of your tyres can cause damage. Moving the car even for a short distance frequently will help ensure an even distribution of weight and therefore well-maintained tyres.

Proper Storage: When not in use, keep your classic car stored in a dry environment. Moisture and extreme temperatures can cause paint blistering, cracking, and discolouration.

Interiors: Comfort and Style

The interiors of your classic car require protection to maintain their original charm and functionality. Here’s what you can do:

Interior Cleaning: Regularly clean the interior surfaces using appropriate cleaners and protectants. This prevents dirt and grime buildup, which can deteriorate leather, vinyl, and other materials over time.

Sunshade: Use a sunshade or window tint to shield the interior from direct sunlight. Harmful UV rays can fade upholstery, dashboard, and trim.

Proper Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation when storing your classic car to prevent mould, mildew, and musty odours from developing. Crack open the windows slightly or use a moisture-absorbing product.

Engine: Maintaining Optimal Performance

Protecting the engine of your classic car is crucial. Extreme weather conditions and long periods of inactivity can lead to a range of issues, including:

Fluids and Lubrication: Regularly check and top up fluids such as coolant, oil, and brake fluid. Change fluids according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Lubricate engine components to prevent rust and corrosion.

Battery Care: Keep your battery charged during periods of inactivity. Consider using a battery maintainer or trickle charger to avoid battery drain.

Weatherproofing: Seal any gaps or areas prone to water ingress, such as the distributor cap, wiring connections, and intake system. Applying a water-resistant silicone-based spray can provide an additional protective layer.

Paintwork: Look As Good As New

The paintwork of your classic car is a defining feature. Protect it with these measures:

Regular Washing: Regularly wash your car to remove dirt, bird droppings, and tree sap that can etch and damage the paint finish. Wash using a reputable pH-neutral car shampoo and microfiber mitts.

Avoid Automatic Car Washes: Avoid automatic car washes that use harsh brushes or abrasive materials. These can scratch or swirl the paintwork. Opt for handwashing or touchless car washes instead.

Polishing and Waxing: Periodically polish your car to remove imperfections and restore the paint’s shine. Apply a high-quality car wax to protect against UV rays and provide a hydrophobic layer.

By following these comprehensive measures to protect your classic car from bad weather, you can ensure its long-term beauty and performance. Remember, diligent care and attention to detail will prolong the lifespan of your beloved vehicle. Embrace the rewarding journey of preserving a classic, as you relish in the joy of driving your meticulously cared-for masterpiece.

Alongside these measures consider storing your car in our secure classic car storage facility, there are a number of benefits to doing this – read on for more information.

How to avoid condensation in your car when in Outside classic car storage

Despite a short week in which we seemed to have an Indian summer, we are well and truly heading into colder temperatures and darker evenings. This usually means the end of the classic car driving season, and an influx of classic cars coming into our insulated inside classic car storage facility in Dorset.

The changing season brings with it a set of conditions that every classic car owner wants to avoid, especially if your car is stored outside under cover, condensation.

In this article, we are going to share some tips on how you can avoid condensation forming in your car when it is in outside classic car storage.

What is condensation?

This might seem reminiscent of those year 7 science lessons when learning about the water cycle, but in case you have forgotten, condensation is the process in which water vapour in the air changes from a gas to a liquid.

Condensation can also be used as a noun. This definition refers to the collection of water droplets that form on a cold surface when warm air hits the cold surface.

When we refer to condensation in this article, we will usually be referring to the noun.

Why does condensation form on cars in classic car storage?

If your car is stored outside, there is a chance that during the colder months, condensation will be left on your classic car. This will happen overnight as the temperatures drop over that time frame cooling the air and encouraging water vapour to change into liquid and sit under the cover and on top of the paintwork.

Why does it happen despite a cover?

Even if you use a cover, you might still face condensation when your car is stored outside. This is because most car covers are breathable, so air sits between the car and the cover. When the temperature drops and the surface of the car gets colder, the air between the cover and the car will condense, leaving water droplets.

For the most part, this doesn’t cause a problem for your car in outside classic car storage. As the cover is breathable, the water will evaporate leaving your car unharmed, and unmarked. However, over the winter, sometimes it can be a good idea to lift the car cover up for a bit to allow any moisture to escape. This is because sometimes the temperature during the day doesn’t get high enough for complete evaporation.

Why does condensation form inside cars in classic car storage?

One of the main causes of condensation inside a car in classic car storage is the presence of moisture that has been trapped inside the car. This probably isn’t surprising, nor new knowledge but what might be a little surprising is where the moisture comes from.

Wet floormats and carpets are often the cause of some condensation forming on the inside of your car. It is easy for the moisture to collect on these parts of the car as they are low and so retain water brought into the vehicle on wet shoes.

Other culprits of condensation can be wet towels, umbrellas and blankets, bottles of water, or old coffee cups. We’ve all done it, placed the coffee cup on the door shelf and then forgot to grab it as we got out of the car, but the moisture from these will evaporate over time and be trapped in your car where it will condense on your glass and dashboard.

How to avoid condensation when using classic car storage

The first step to avoiding condensation in your car while it is in classic car storage is to remove anything that might contain moisture from the car. Take out the coffee cups, water bottles and wet towels as soon as you can. This will reduce the chance of moisture getting trapped inside and forming condensation on the glass and dashboard.

If you think the floor mats might be wet, then it is a good idea to take them out and give them an opportunity to dry outside of the car.

It is also a good idea to give the glass in your car a wipe-down. Mold spores can attach themselves to dirt inside the car or on the glass which can encourage water droplets to form and condensate. While you are giving the windows a wipe-down, it is recommended that you wind down the windows slightly so that you can clean the dirty marks left by the seals around the window.

If you have somewhere to stash some silica gel sachets, these can be a great way to reduce condensation as they can absorb some of the moisture and act as a dehumidifier. These are great as they are reusable too. Simply refresh them in the microwave or put them in the airing cupboard for a bit.

When leaving your car in classic car storage for an extended period of time and the car is covered, you should leave the windows open slightly as this will prevent a “microclimate” from forming inside the car.

What Does Your Classic Car Say About You?

Here at Hogleaze Storage, we store a variety of classic cars. We’ve seen a huge range of beautiful classics trusted into our care, each with its own distinct character. The variety of cars we see got us thinking about what we associate with each car, including different makes and models. Just like people say a dog can look like its owner, we think a classic car can often say something about its owner too. So here are our thoughts about what your classic car might say about you—all in good fun, of course!

The Aston Martin Owner

If there’s one thing people, even those not familiar with classic cars, can associate with an Aston, it’s James Bond. Bond has been driving Aston Martins in the movies since the ’60s, or even longer if you take the books into consideration too. No Time to Die, released in 2021, featured a whopping four different models from different eras.

While not everyone wants to be associated with the womaniser spy, plenty of Aston Martin owners and drivers have to be happy with the connection. They get to be thought of as suave, smart, and maybe even devilishly handsome too.

Of course, this is very male-focused but the car is not exclusive to men. For women, this car says they enjoy a bit of luxury, but they don’t feel the need for their lavish ride to grab people’s attention.

Classic VW Beetles are still popular with a certain type of classic car enthusiast. But what do they say about those who own them? For a lot of people, they’re the quintessential cute car, with their rounded profiles that can almost be seen as friendly. There’s a reason one was brought to life in the Herbie movies. The strong personality of the Beetle might suggest that owners typically have something of a strong personality too—especially those who can’t just stop at one!

Of course, there are other classic Volkswagen cars that are popular with enthusiasts. The Passat celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, and the elegant Italian style of the Karmann Ghia Type 14 is over 65 years old too. Each of these can say something different about the owner.

Alfa Romeo

According to one Alfa Romeo Brera owner, owning their car “expresses a wish to drive a unique vehicle that shows me to be very conscious of style and performance”. Although we could say that’s at the heart of why anyone owns or drives a classic car, it’s not surprising that an owner of this sporty number would say that. The Brera may be only about 20 years old, but even as far back as the 1950s, it’s obvious that Alfa Romeo cars often exude style. Whether that translates into stylish owners isn’t up to us to say, but a lot of classic car owners do like to style themselves after their cars.

The classic Mini Cooper may be small in stature, but it’s still a familiar sight on the roads. When there are no classics to be seen, you don’t have to look far to spot one of the newer models. So what do we think when we see someone with a true classic? These little runarounds are quirky, fun, and oozing personality. We’ve seen everyone from Mr Bean to Austin Powers drive one, and there’s no doubt that they’re always memorable. And on the subject of Austin Powers, we definitely wouldn’t be surprised to see someone decked out in 1960s style step out of a classic Mini Cooper. Whether you’re a suited and booted mod or more of a rocker, this is definitely a car to drive in style.

American Classics

There’s a lot to love about classic British and European car designs. But some people can’t help but lean more towards the classics from across the pond. They might be a little rarer to see out on the road, so it can be a delight to see them, for classic car enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike. Many of the classic American cars favoured are 1950s models, and it’s not uncommon to see that the owners don’t stop at the Americana with their cars. From pinup looks to greasers, it’s easy to picture someone from the cast of Grease behind the wheel of any classic American car. These owners are probably a fan of turning up at vintage fairs and events too, and why not if it’s a chance to show off your great taste?

Student Self-Storage: How To Organise Your Belongings

Are you a student wondering where to store your belongings over the summer? At Hogleaze Storage, we provide two secure locations in Weymouth and Dorchester where you can safely keep your belongings over the summer months. Student storage units are also ideal when spending a year out, allowing you to retrieve your belongings at the end of your travels. Reduce the hassle of shipping or transporting your belongings home with the support of student self-storage.

But how do you organise your belongings before using your student storage unit? This article will give you advice on preparing your belongings for storage.

Is There Anything That Cannot Go Into Student Self-Storage?

There are very few items that Hogleaze Storage cannot store for you:

  • Illegal items – prohibited drugs, weapons, or self-defence sprays cannot be stored in your student storage unit.
  • Foods and perishable items – foods and perishable items will deteriorate and may damage other items in your storage unit. We are unable to freeze or refrigerate perishable goods.
  • Flammable items or items that emit fumes or odours – oil, paints, gases or fireworks should not be stored in student self-storage.
  • Irreplaceable items – students should not store sentimental or financial items like currency, jewellery, art, or deeds.

What Items Can I Store In A Student Storage Unit?

Students can store anything not in the above list. Common storage items include:

  • Furniture, electronics and appliances – any tables, shelves, desks, electronics, or kitchen appliances.
  • Textbooks or equipment – any materials you don’t need over the summer can go into a Hogleaze student self-storage unit, be that a biology textbook or large sports equipment.
  • Clothing – maximise your limited wardrobe space by organising clothes seasonally. Store the season you won’t be wearing with us, then swap them out accordingly!

How Should I Organise My Self-Storage Unit?

You can take a few steps to make your self-storage unit easier to navigate and unpack. Consider these simple steps to arrange your belongings.

List and mark up your items.

List everything you will put in your self-storage unit. Ensure everything is boxed up and marked correctly so you know what is in each box.

Store fragile items in secure boxes.

Pack up fragile items in bubble wrap and secure plastic boxes. Cardboard boxes are more susceptible to damage than plastic, so added strength can help to protect crockery or electronics from damage.

Clean before packing

Items like clothes or bedding will last longer if washed and cleaned before being packed away.

Heavy items go first.

Put your heavier items, like larger textbooks or electronics, at the bottom of each box. Lighter items go on top to avoid being damaged.

Most used items go last.

Put the items you use the most at the top of the pile or closest to the door of your student self-storage unit. This will make them easiest to grab or unpack.

Do you really need it?

Consider as you pack something up whether you really need it. Do you really need that Halloween outfit from the first year?

Take apart larger items.

Take apart larger items like bookshelves or desks to make them easier to transport. If it isn’t possible, our storage units can easily fit in all student furniture.

Pack heavier items by the door.

Heavier boxes or furniture may be more difficult to transport and are often the first items to go into a vehicle. Put them near the front of your storage unit for easier transportation.

How Can Hogleaze Storage Help With Your Student Storage Unit?

How to prepare for your caravan and motorhome holiday

There’s something about a camping holiday that just feels so free. It gives you the chance to head out on the open road with the flexibility to explore different parts of the country all without having to worry about your accommodation. Not only do you already have a bed and place to stay, but it saves you money and you can also fill it with your home comforts.

You don’t need to worry about fitting travel toiletries into a tiny plastic wallet or limiting items, as you can pre-pack it all into your caravan or motorhome before you go and as long as it fits, you’re good to go! If you’re new to caravanning it can feel a bit of a minefield knowing what to pack and how to properly prepare. This is why we’ve put together a few top tips that should help you make the most of your trip.

Packing tips for your caravan or motorhome holiday

When it comes to a caravan or motorhome holiday, chances are you will pitch up somewhere a bit more remote where you won’t be able to just pop to the shops should you need something. This is why you want to ensure you’re as prepared as possible and don’t need to nip out at the last minute to get something important that you’ve left behind. Some packing tips include:

Only pack what you need

As with any holiday, it can be tempting to overpack. While your motorhome or caravan might allow you to bring more than one suitcase of clothes as with a normal holiday, there still isn’t an abundance of space. Think carefully about what you’re doing and where you’re going, only packing what you’ll absolutely use and need.

Use packing cubes

Packing cubes are a great way to save space and keep everything organised and sorted for when you need it.

Be sensible with your storage

Consider clever storage such as a collapsible washing basket, foldable camping chairs and a table and a collapsible shoe rack. These keep things stored and take up less space.

Don’t forget outdoor seating

You might not keep outdoor seating in your caravan or motorhome all the time if you use it elsewhere but it’s a necessity when looking to soak up the weather and views. Be sure to pack this before you hit the road.

Remember to bring entertainment

Things such as cards, board games and art equipment can all be great forms of entertainment while you’re away. Or pack a selection of books and take the time away from your everyday life to catch up with some reading.

Pack necessary household items

Don’t forget to bring items such as cleaning supplies, kitchen accessories and toiletries with you as they will be needed a lot during the trip but aren’t necessarily the first things you consider when you usually go away.

What to do to your motorhome or caravan to ensure it’s ready

Prior to heading on your motorhome or caravan holiday, you need to make sure the vehicle itself is ready for the trip. Some of the things you can do to ensure it’s ready is:

Check the batteries or engine

This is particularly important if your caravan or motorhome has been sat for a while. Ensure you check the leisure batteries aren’t flat in your caravan, or if you have a motorhome, you might need to check that the engine is still working as it should be. You don’t want to find out there are problems when you’re halfway to your destination!

This is easy to do when storing your motorhome or caravan at our caravan storage facility in Dorset as you can have 24-hour access to your caravan or motorhome, 7 days a week, meaning you can come and check it at a time that is convenient to you, not when our offices are open.

You will also need to check the tyre pressures and condition of the tyres. Hogleaze Storage has an airline for your use.

Give it a good clean and air it out

Over time your caravan or motorhome can become dusty and musty. Open all the windows to air it out and give it a thorough clean and dust everywhere. This will make for a much more pleasant travelling experience.

Hogleaze Storage makes this simple with our grey/blackwater discharge point and waste skip and pressure washer which has a mounting platform.

Inspect for any damage

From general wear and tear to any external damage, you want to get any repairs done before you set off. Inspect the gutters for any blockages and check things such as the plumbing and electrics are in working order. Open all the drawers and cupboards to check for any loose fittings and make sure all the mechanics are as they should be.

Ensure the safety features are as they should be

Before going anywhere in your caravan or motorhome, you need to make sure the safety features are all working as they should. This includes checking the alarm works, the gas switch and the boiler to ensure no mishaps on your trip.

These tips are sure to help you get the most from your holiday and ensure you have a carefree time out on the open road. Whether you decide to drive and pitch up in one destination or make a road trip out of it, you’re sure to make memories that will last a lifetime.

The end of your holiday

If you are in need of motorhome or caravan storage in Dorset when you return from your holiday, look no further. We have around 250 secure caravan plots at our storage facility in Dorchester. Each plot is 3 metres wide and 9 metres long, giving you plenty of space.

Our facility has the CaSSOA Gold award for security, meaning our facility follows strict regulations and protocols when it comes to the storage and safety of your caravan.

Benefits of classic car storage

When it comes to preserving and protecting your classic car, proper storage is of utmost importance. Classic vehicles are not just cars; they are cherished pieces of history and highly valuable investments. In many cases, they can also be much-loved family heirlooms. As such, you want to ensure the longevity and pristine condition of your vehicles. Classic car owners need a storage solution that can fulfil the specific requirements of their vehicles.

Or, maybe you really want to buy a classic car but just don’t have a dry/secure place to keep it.

At Hogleaze Storage, we understand the unique significance of classic car storage and go above and beyond to offer a range of benefits that cater to your needs.

Storage Conditions: a vital element for classic vehicles

Classic vehicles are sensitive to extreme temperatures: Heat, cold, and even high moisture levels can have detrimental effects on the paint, the engine, and any other delicate components. At Hogleaze Storage, we have a new fully insulated storage facility that can maintain an optimal environment for all classic vehicles.

Our classic car storage buildings are designed to help prevent issues such as mould, rust, and degradation of upholstery. You can relax in the knowledge that your vehicle is protected from the elements.

Trickle charging sockets for battery health

Battery health is one of the biggest challenges of owning a classic vehicle, especially because vintage cars tend to be left in storage for extended periods of time. Ultimately, classic cars are typically equipped with older and less efficient batteries that drain quickly if they are not properly maintained. At Hogleaze Storage, we address this frequently-occurring problem by ensuring every vehicle can access trickle charging sockets directly inside each storage plot.

Our trickle charging sockets ensure batteries can remain charged and in excellent condition throughout the duration of storage, allowing you to be able to jump in the car when you want to and head out on that ever-thrilling drive.

Secure facility that protects your prized possession

Classic cars are valuable assets, with some vehicles racking up high sale prices. But even if your classic car doesn’t hold a profitable resale value, there is no denying its sentimental value. For these reasons, we do everything in our power to safeguard the monetary and sentimental worth of your classic vehicles.

You will find that our Hogleaze classic car storage is a secure facility with state-of-the-art security measures, such as CCTV surveillance, ANPR (automatic numberplate recognition), alarm systems, and strict, secure access control. With these features in place, we are proud to provide classic car owners with peace of mind. We are proud to have received the CaSSOA gold award for security. Your vehicle is always protected from vandalism, theft, and unauthorised access at our location.

7 days, 24-hour access for convenience

When is the best time to go on a drive with your cherished possession? At Hogleaze Storage, we believe the best time is whenever you decide. We appreciate that every classic car owner has a different schedule and requirements, which is why our storage facility provides full 24-hour access to owners every single day of the week. With round-the-clock availability, you are free to visit your classic car whenever you see fit.

The last thing you need as a vintage car owner is to try to make your schedule fit around the opening hours of a classic car storage facility. At Hogleaze Storage, you can easily access it at any time using your key fob entry and security procedure.

Plenty of space to accommodate classic car collections

Having ample space is essential for classic car enthusiasts. Classic vehicles need plenty of room to be stored and manoeuvred comfortably and with ease. That’s why every car is allocated an individually numbered plot and our storage plots are roomy, so you don’t have to worry about accidental scratches and dents!

What’s on in Dorset this Summer (Motorhome Edition)

Thanks to the beautiful Dorset coast and country landscape, there is always a lot going on in the county over the summer. And with plenty of caravan and motorhome sites around it is the perfect place for a holiday for those looking for a trip away in your home away from home.

If you are heading down to our gorgeous coast, check out our guide to what’s on this summer.

Camp Bestival

Dorset’s own Glastonbury is set to take place again this year, between the 27th and 30th of July.
The family-friendly event will see a star-studded line-up from music acts such as Scouting for Girls, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Sam Ryder, to children’s entertainers Dick and Dom, and Mr. Tumble.

The 3-day event will also be throwing it back to the 80s with a roller disco, blowing minds with a circus performance, and calming the chaos with cosmic kids yoga among other entertainment activities planned.

As the name suggests, it is the perfect place to camp with your motorhome or caravan. With three different motorhome and campervan fields available, you can pick the best spot for you and those you are travelling with.

Tickets for motorhomes and caravans must be bought in advance.

Seafeast – The Dorset Seafood Festival

If you are a seafood lover, you will not want to miss our award-winning Seafeast. This event gives you a chance to experience and taste the range of seafood we have right on our doorstep on the shores of our coastline.

The Weymouth food festival is taking place on the 9th and 10th of September and provides an opportunity to learn more about the health of our seas, catch chef demos to learn new skills and recipes, and raise funds for our local Fishermen’s Mission.

Weymouth SummerFest

New this year, SummerFest will be a fun-packed festival that is aimed at families. On Saturday 3rd June, the festival will be taking place at Redlands Leisure and Community Park to raise money for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

At the free festival, you can expect live music, a great fire works display, pop-up farmers’ market, a classic car display, a children’s football tournament, Combat Lab demonstrations and so much more.

This event is not to be missed if you are in the area.

Sherbourne Castle Country Fair

A firm favourite with the locals, the Sherborne Country Fair is returning to the castle on the 29th of May-something to do with your bank holiday! The event is accessible to everyone with free parking and is dog friendly.

The lakeside location gives a stunning backdrop to the variety of activities that happen across the day, from the dragon boat racing to music and dance performances.

Kingston Lacy

In the heart of rural Wimborne, is a large National Trust estate that provides endless fun for a day out.

The car park has specific parking for motorhomes, so it is easily accessible for those who are traveling in their home.

The National Trust hold a range of events and activities throughout the summer, such as their Guided Garden Walk, Marvellous Minibeasts trails, and Yoga Under the Trees. Or if you are looking for something with a little less structure, then roam the gardens and house at your leisure, and make the most of the weather (hopefully) by enjoying a picnic on the greens.

Wimborne Folk Festival

Join Dorset’s largest folk festival in the quaint town of Wimborne. Between the 9th to the 11th of June, the town will be filled with live music, dancing, market stalls, and art exhibitions. Take part in the dance and music workshops, or soak up the atmosphere at the microbrewery, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Don’t miss a minute of the action and stay at the Folk Festival Campsite, just a 10-minute walk from the town centre and hub of the action.

Dorset VolksFest

VW Fest is back this year over at the showground in Wareham. The festival offers a relaxing weekend to enjoy live music, a DJ/dance marquee, plenty of activities for children, stunt shows, a Show & Shine competition, a trade village, a beer, cider & wine tent, and a great choice of street food and, of course, a wide variety of VWs.

Hoping to make the most of the summer sun? The festival is heading to Dorset from the 7th to the 9th of July, so head over if you are around that weekend.

Sherborne Car show

If you are interested in classic and super cars, then this is an event not to be missed.

Taking place at Sherborne Castle on Sunday 16th July, the event will include over 1,500 private classic and supercars on display, motor club and trade stands, an autojumble, a craft fair, and a catering village.

Parking is free, and the event raises money for a number of charities each year.

South West Motorhome Show

While this event isn’t in Dorset, it would be remiss of us to miss it out of our “What’s on in Dorset (Motorhome Edition)”.

The South West Motorhome Show takes place in the idyllic Somerset, Dorset neighbouring county, from the 8th to the 10th of September.

Spend your day exploring local and national dealers, who will be displaying a diverse range of new & used motorhomes and campervans for sale, or participate in the free motorhome manoeuvring courses that are put on by The Caravan and Motorhome Club. In the evenings, enjoy the live entertainment that is put on.

Really impressed with the service & customer-focused attention

I was really impressed with the service and customer-focused attention I received dealing with you both. Prompt replies to my enquiries and professional standards throughout mean that my first thoughts on needing storage will be towards Hogleaze. Also, as I mentioned when meeting you, my work involves motor homes, camper vans and the occasional ‘shed’ and I have and will continue to recommend you. I took several of your cards for this purpose!

Unfortunately, our house move failed as the buyers pulled out on Christmas Eve (nice) so I’ve put my MX5 back in our double garage but I was happy knowing it was safe and snug at yours!

I would recommend Hogleaze Storage to anyone thinking of storing their possessions

It has been a most enjoyable experience entrusting Hogleaze Storage Ltd with my furniture, household and personal possessions, since August 2012.

It was good to meet Shelley, her helpful and friendly demeanor, nothing was too much – she even brought along bolt cutters in case I could not open the padlock on the shutter doors. She was happy to show Gentleman Removals and myself the way.

The service has been excellent throughout the seven years, with up-to-date monthly invoices and security information – thoughtful and caring – all my possessions including the ones I did not know I had stored in the unit, were intact and working.

I would recommend Hogleaze Storage Ltd to anyone thinking of storing their household, office and personal possessions, whether short or long-term. The location is worth a visit on its own, the site is safe and secure, clean and accessible 24/7.
