It’s no surprise that moving house is up there with the most stressful experiences a person can go through. What with the many expensive fees to pay, waiting months for loose ends to be tied up and then the eventual task of getting all your belongings out in time for moving day, it can turn the calmest person into a nervous wreck… but it doesn’t have to be like this!
In this article, we outline the ways you can prepare yourself for moving house and how our removals and storage solution can help when it comes to the ‘big day’.
Top tips from Hogleaze for moving house
So you’ve found your new home and had your offer accepted, the first hurdle is out of the way, if you are lucky enough that the chain is now complete, you can start the moving process and get in touch with your solicitor.
Get all your paperwork in one place
You’re going to need to supply a lot of paperwork to your estate agents, bank and solicitors proving you can afford your new home. And whilst filing isn’t at the top of everyone’s priority list, it really will save you time down the line. Ensuring you have bank statements, payslips, utility bills, guarantees, building regulations, planning consents and financial documents ready to go will ease the pressure and speed things up!
Have a clear-out
Once everyone has the paperwork they need, most of the jobs are now left to the professionals, and in theory, you can sit back and wait for it to all go through. However, this is the time you can start preparing for the move by clearing out what you don’t need, this way when it comes to packing you won’t spend hours going through what needs to be thrown out. Even the tidiest people will hoard some unwanted belongings, and you may even be able to make some cash by selling them. Don’t forget, have you checked what’s in your loft or garden shed?
Start packing early
Completion day can come around quite quickly, and sometimes the time between exchange and moving day is less than a week, so even if you’ve waited 3 months for everything to come together, don’t leave packing till the last minute.
Firstly, make sure you have all the packing materials, this should include sturdy boxes and plenty of tape and bubble wrap. Start with the items you aren’t going to need, such as ornaments and books and take a trip into your loft and see what’s hiding behind the cobwebs!
Don’t forget your trusty permanent marker and label all your boxes clearly with the contents and what room they are for.
Arrange help if it’s required
